Crocheting across the country: the tale of Milly for Miles
You've heard of road trip games, but what about road trip collaborative crochet projects? With one tour already under its belt, the Wooble Wagon is no stranger to cross-country crochet projects. But this year, as it toured the country with games, goodies, and woobly cheer, the Wooble Wagon had a new passenger princess: Milly for Miles.
As the Woobleverse's favorite snake born from the journey of hitting one million social media followers, Milly the Snake knows a thing or two about big goals. But as she set out to make this year's community project bigger (with a goal of growing long enough to wrap the Wooble Wagon), better (by including online Wooblers), and more together (thanks to #TeamMillyforMiles—the group of Wooblers who assembled her stripes), this year's project felt like a bit of a stretch, even for her. The plan? Simple. Gather stitches from Wooblers across the country that Team #MillyforMiles would then use as yarn to crochet Milly's stripes. But a goal requiring 4.5x as many stitches as last year's project? A lil scary.
Here's what happened every step of the 5 weeks, 19 stops, and 8,000 miles along the way. (Including some woobly stories from the Team #MillyforMiles Wooblers who assembled her stripes!)
📍Heading Out & Hitting the Coast

"A few years back, I saw an ad for Woobles, Bj ørn the Narwhal, and I I remembered my grandma crocheting sweaters, decorations and other things when I was a kid. But I never learned. So I decided it was time to give it a shot... Now, whenever I want to relax, I just grab my hook and yarn, regardless if it's a hot and sunny day or a rainy, cold one, I make stitch after stitch and all the stress and worries disappear for a while." — Sandra
" I was going through a difficult time with my mental health and needed something to keep my hands and mind busy... so I picked up The Woobles ... What started as a distraction quickly became something calming and rewarding that I looked forward to every day. Wooblin’ gave me a creative outlet, helped quiet my mind, and reminded me that small projects can make a really big difference." — Bonnie

"Crocheting makes my heart incredibly happy. I love the joy and personality my creations bring to the yarniverse, and The Woobles make crochet feel fun, encouraging, and approachable. What I love most is the community side of wooblin’. There’s something really special about strangers connecting over yarn and tiny stuffed animals." — Elizabeth
"I have been crocheting forever, but I use the Woobles to teach my high school students how to crochet because the videos are so clear and easy for them to follow" — Shelby

"I started my woobling journey with Snooky in late 2023. I fell in love with glow in the dark yarn, I didn’t know that yarn could glow. Once I finished my woobly friend, I felt a sense of satisfaction that I made something so adorable while learning a new skill." — Daisy

"After 50 years of failed attempts, I finally unlocked my inner crocheter with Kiki the Chick. My sister, Debbie, bought me a kit for Christmas. I was skeptical, to say the least. She assured me I could do it if she could, and she was right. Now I am a crocheting maniac and even have gotten my neighbors in on the wooblin' action." — Christine
"The Woobles started as a way to work on my son's hand dexterity, but it took quite a long time until I tried it myself. That winter, I picked up more Woobles and made at least a Wooble a day for months. There is barely a day where I don’t Wooble. It’s a form of relaxation for me with a reward of little successes and little new friends." — Laurie

"As someone with ADHD, Woobles makes it easy for me to crochet a fun project. They have all the materials in one kit with easy to follow directions. As a mom of three, my life is very busy and I enjoy the fact that the projects are portable so I can take them with my while waiting for my kids activities to finish. I love being able to share my love of crochet with others and have started a group with my coworkers." — Kristi
"I started crocheting less than three years ago when I purchased my very first Woobles' kit, "Luna"... and I continued on from my cute (understuffed) Luna to many more Woobles kits... Crochet is not just a hobby for me, it's a passion. It is my calm in the chaos of life. I also have a porch goose now who gets dressed in various crochet outfits throughout the year. So my neighbors thank Woobles too!" — Jennifer

"So I remember when I first saw Woobles, I was very hesitant because I already knew how to crochet. My sister who is 16 years younger than me had done a kit that my parents bought her (she wanted to learn since I could crochet) and it was so cute and adorable and she had so much fun, that I figured it was time to take the plunge and get one... I have absolutely fallen in love with the communities on Facebook and have made so many connections and friends through it...This community has so many hidden gems of people that have the most beautiful souls!— Christina
"I have been Woobling for over two years... I have been crocheting for 30 years and nearly make anything and I LOVE crocheting Woobles. They cheer me up & make wonderful gifts for my grandbaby and everyone... It is my therapy and I absolutely love crocheting and Woobles!" — Penny

"A little over two years ago, I picked up the Pierre kit my husband Carl had gotten for me for Christmas the year before... From there, I was literally hooked... I’ve made over 250 Woobles since then, most of which have been gifts or donated to drives that provide some woobly comfort to kids in the hospital. I had no clue that seven months after learning to wooble, it would become my lifeline after having a preventative double mastectomy, learning I actually had high-grade cancer, and that the surgery had led to me being cancer free and likely saved my life. During the long physical and mental recovery process, wooblin' helped me regain strength in my arms alongside PT and kept my spirits up. The following year, before another surgery, I was even wooblin' in surgery prep! The community I’ve met online through a shared love of wooblin' has been second to none... I’m proud to be a Woobler and even more proud to show people it’s never too late to learn something new AND use it to give back in the world." — Kate
"Back in 2024 I had hip surgery and was looking for activities to do while hanging out on the couch. I was a marathoner, so I do not sit still very well. Enter The Woobles! I'd tried to learn to crochet several times before, but the step by step instructions in The Woobles kits just clicked and I took off! I am now a full fledged addict. My kids have LOVED all the cute friends I've made for them and my 10 year old has started wooblin' as well. The community that comes along with this hobby has been such an amazing bonus. I love the passion and creativity that is shared daily." — Lauren

"I am an occupational therapist who works with children to help them learn skills to be more independent in the things they want and need to do everyday! I made my first Wooble over 2.5 years ago and I’ve been hooked ever since! Wooblin' helps me to destress and boosts my confidence as I get better each time. I love collecting all of the different Woobles and making new friends who share a love for this hobby!" — Kaitlyn
"I deal with pretty bad anxiety, and have been in therapy for it for quite some time. I felt that there was no way of escaping it, until one cool, fall day back in November of 2023 when my sister came to visit... she gave me something that would change my life for the better: my very first Wooble, a rainbow Billy the Unicorn... I quickly scanned the QR code, toggled the instructions to left-handed, and got started... The immense feeling of pride and joy I had seeing that messy little yarn critter sparked something in me, and I have since morphed into a true fiber artist... It has helped me find appreciation in the little things, focus on progress over perfection, stop searching for immediate results, and focus more on the journey, rather than the destination. I couldn't be more grateful for how The Woobles have truly transformed my life for the better." — Rachel
"Having a career in corporate tech can be demanding at times, and I’ll admit that throughout different points in my career, I’ve prioritized work over my own well-being... I had always been a crafty person, but I had never crocheted before, and on a whim, I decided to purchase my first kit: Disco Fred... What started as a creative outlet quickly grew into something much more meaningful. It became my way to decompress and practice self-care amid a busy lifestyle... Shortly after finishing my first few kits, I gifted my sister her first kit, which we made together: Rainbow Billy... Crocheting officially became her favorite hobby too. Even though my sister and I live more than 300 miles apart, crocheting has become one of our favorite ways to stay connected." — Abby

"My crochet journey began in 2024 with The Woobles, and I haven't stopped since... There's a mindfulness to the process, the rhythm of each stitch, the way a little plushie slowly takes shape in your hands, that I find genuinely restorative. My kids feel the magic too. They light up every time a new Wooble comes to life, and some of my favorite memories have been sitting down to work through Loopable kits together with them... But beyond the projects themselves, what The Woobles has given me is something much bigger: a community... As a full-time working mother of two who is simultaneously pursuing an additional advanced degree, life is full and demanding...The Woobles didn't just teach me to crochet. They gave me something that genuinely supports my mental health and brings me joy every day." — Mary

🏁 So.... Did Milly Make It?
Once we collected the final week's yarn from the tour stops, it was time to get all of Milly's stripes back to home base. Which was easier said than done, thanks to several travel hiccups. But over a dozen pool noodles, two bulk stuffing boxes, and one day's worth of stuffing and sewing later, Milly for Miles was assembled and sized up.
The results? After traveling nearly a Milly-on miles, this community's stitches grew Milly for Miles long enough to wrap the Wooble Wagon... and then some. Making her more than deserving of her gold tongue (if you know, you know.)
- Final length: 70 feet before stuffing, 80+ after stuffing
- Final weight: ~60 lbs
- Total online tail stitches: ~80,000
- Total Stitches: ~800,000
Since she's woobled entirely by the community, she's the longest, stripiest reminder of what makes this community so incredibly special. Thank you all for milly-ieving in Milly for Miles and everything she stands for.
